Barack Obama’s administration, accelerating a process that had begun in the early 1960s under President Kennedy, was centralizing foreign policy decision making in the White House’s National Security Council, marginalizing the State Department. Kerry hadn’t even been Obama’s first choice for the position, getting nominated only when the candidacy of United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice was derailed by her tenuous association with the Benghazi consulate tragedy in 2012. (Rice ended up running the National Security Council.) The appetite for risk taking in the White House is never high, but after the Benghazi imbroglio, it was particularly low.
Now think about the Civil War, which ended around 150 years ago. These people have no personal ties to it. All the people who fought and their kids are long dead. There are fewer than 400 north Atlantic right whales remaining, and any mortality of the species is a serious setback to rescuing the animals from extinction, according to federal biologists who expressed dismay over Saturday discovery of the 22 foot (7 meter) male infant at Anastasia State Park near St. Augustine. In his first intervention since Beijing announced the ban, Tim Davie said that countries such as China were now trying to expand their “control of information”.
These findings were particularly notable among those in the upper two years of middle schools, suggesting that children aged 11 and above would enjoy a superior educational experience in secondary schools. A clear trend was evident for middle school pupils to ‘out grow’ their middle school as they progressed through the year groups and for many participants the transfer to a new school was well overdue by Year 8. There was little to suggest that children’s social development is better nurtured in a middle school environment, though there were indications that social relationships at the middle school are better than those at secondary schools and that children’s emotional well being is better supported.I argue that the inception, development and downfall of the middle school has been characterised by a lack of clarity and consistency in its form and identity which has failed to make it robust enough to withstand national shifts in educational policy and pedagogy.
